In December, Greenbelt accepted the generous gift of a Conservation Restriction on approximately 30 acres of land in West Gloucester from Sam and Betsy Holdsworth.
Located almost entirely in the Great Marsh Area of Critical Environmental Concern, the land features salt marsh and creek frontage, and important upland areas that serve to protect water quality and provide habitat diversity in the marsh and the Essex River.
“While certain agricultural uses will continue, no further residential development will be allowed, ensuring that this corner of West Gloucester will remain much as it is today,” said Greenbelt’s Director of Land Conservation Chris LaPointe.
This CR gift helps expand an area of existing conserved land that extends from Greenbelt’s Tompson Street Reservation to the marsh.
