Initially one large nestling was on the nest and a fledgling was sitting down on a nesting box in the marsh. The nestling was not observed flapping its wings, but was just sitting in the nest. A few minutes later, one of the osprey started calling and the adult (male presumed) came flying into the nest from the marsh carrying a fish. The fledgling few up, and the fish was dropped off. The adult departed.

As we have been away in recent days, I can’t say exactly when the other members of this family group were last seen, but at this point, it appears that the last, and likely the slowest to gain weight, offspring associated with this nest is the bird that remains. Can now confirm both juveniles are fledged! Each were on adjacent poles. An adult, presumably the male, dropped a fish in the nest and left. One juvenile flew to get it. Took it to another pole to eat. As of Friday the younger juvenile was still on the nest but was getting some great height and I knew it would be soon. Very happy for another success story here in Haverhill.

The oldest fledgling was missing for 2 days. I began to wonder if it had left for the season. The youngest fledgling was receiving regular meal deliveries from Bob. A tumbling, erratic osprey, carrying a fish appeared out of nowhere. The bird was attempting to drop off this fish into the nest. It was then I realized it was the eldest fledgling bringing in food for his sibling. The fish landed in the nest and the fledgling celebrated his feat by doing victory laps around the marsh. About an hour later, Bob brought in more fish and both fledglings ate.

Hot, muggy. Cloudy. Had rained.
Two youngsters are flapping wings. One was perched on side. Mother was flying around and perched on nest. I have been away so it is possible they have fledged but I have not seen them fly. Hope to spend some good amount of time there this weekend so I’ll have a better idea. I never seem to be there when papa brings in fish. She’s probably fishing too.

Continuing 'housekeeping' pair. Initially 1 adult was on the nest and one on the outer perch. Then one flew off. Observed on the way over to Brophy and checked while at Brophy.
2024-07-306:50 AM to 7:20 AMat: Essex
Lots of activity and vocalizations at the nest. At one point the adult and all 3 young were at the nest. Then one of the fledglings flew off and did a long circle. It returned briefly and then flew off with the second fledgling. All of them had been calling while the first was gone. The 2 flew off together, way out to a line of trees to the west and were gone at least 5 minutes. Calling continued from the young and adult at the nest. Both returned and another osprey flew low over the nest, calling, but it didn't come in. The nestling was vocal, but did not fly.
2024-07-307:10 AM to 7:45 AMat: Essex
Initially observed from Brophy and the nest appeared empty.. One we got to Dean, the 2 nestlings were visible, but were tucked down and quiet. There were a couple of adults somewhat nearby, one in the air close to the treed island, and 1 one a tree on Dean Island, but they did not come into the nest.

On the way from Dean, 2 osprey were visible on the nest. 1 flew off and over Choate Island with several other osprey. At one point there were 4 or 5 osprey flying over Choate Island.

2024-07-308:30 AM to 8:45 AMat: Essex

Initially no osprey were on the nest, but calls could be heard. Then, what appeared to be the fledgling flew in briefly, giving a high pitched, rapid call. 2 other osprey were visible nearby over the trees, and it flew back in their direction. We were still a distance away when we observed this, and couldn't get a great look at the osprey in the nest. It was the calling and behavior that had me identify it as a fledgling.

Two osprey left the nest as I approached. I shut down my motor and within a minute 4 osprey returned. Two landed on the nest and two were circling the creek and hunting fish. I'm not sure if these were 2 fledglings that I hadn't previously seen or if it was just another pair of osprey.
