In 2020, Tyler Akabane started his “Mushrooms for My Friends” mailing list to find a new way to sell the wild foraged fungi he had previously been supplying to the restaurants that were then closed during quarantine. The idea of buying local mushrooms through Tyler’s newsletter took off and became so popular that, when the opportunity came to open a brick and mortar store, Tyler was able to jump on it. Now, Boston-area gourmands are able to visit The Mushroom Shop to find locally foranged mushrooms, imported foreign fungi, and other specialty gourmet foods from around the world.
As if Tyler is not busy enough with the store, he also offers classes and foraging walks to the public. This special walk in Lynn is Greenbelt’s first collab with Tyler! We can look forward to learning from his expertise on local mushrooms and plants, as well as his familiarity with the local ecosystems, since he grew up in Swampscott! This is a special opportunity to attend for free, but if you miss out, Tyler will also be hosting his own walks in local conservation areas. Visit The Mushroom Shop’s webpage to find his classes and walks.
We will meet at Lynn Woods Reservation, 106 Pennybrook Road, Lynn
