Gravel Grinder

Two Gravel Grinder Routes

A 40-mile adventure route. This ride is for more experienced riders looking to test their skills on a variety of terrain. The route will offer a great exploration of Greenbelt properties across a mix of fire roads, double track, single track, and gravel trails. Riders will want a bike with at least 35mm tires, and should know how to fix a flat tire if one occurs. Riders should feel comfortable on a variety of terrain including mud, rocks, and roots. There may be sections where riders need to dismount to avoid obstacles. Riders should plan for this route to take 3 to 4 hours. If you’re looking to push your limits while exploring amazing trails across Essex County, this is the route for you!

A new 29-mile short route. This ride is for less experienced riders or riders who want to take it easy while enjoying the scenery!
The shorter route will offer a great exploration of Greenbelt properties across a mix of fire roads, double track, single track, and gravel trails. Riders will want a bike with at least 35mm tires, and should know how to fix a flat tire if one occurs.

Riders should feel comfortable on a variety of terrain including mud, rocks, and roots. There may be short sections where riders may choose to dismount to avoid rough terrain. Please use your best judgment based on your experience and comfort level.
Riders should plan for this route to take 2 to 3 hours. If you’re looking to enjoy a laid back ride with a few short, exciting sections while exploring amazing trails across Essex County, this is the route for you!

Both are appropriate for gravel and cyclocross bikes.

Our Gravel Grinder routes are not marked, but are self-nav using free Ride with GPS event turn-by-turn navigation. New to self-nav? It's not hard! It works like the GPS in your car, following your location on a map with audio and on-screen cues at turns. Send us an email or give us a call if you need some guidance!

Routes will be posted this summer after volunteers have had a chance to test ride them!
